A 16-year-old teenager who died at a tournament in the Amur Region should not have performed without a helmet, said TASS Andrey Terentiev, Vice-President of the MMA Union of Russia.
On June 4, at a tournament in Belogorsk, which was held by the regional MMA federation, one of the participants lost consciousness from a blow to the head, who later died in intensive care. The prosecutor’s office began an investigation.
“On behalf of the MMA Union of Russia, we sincerely condole with the relatives of the deceased athlete. We learned regarding the incident from the media and immediately requested information from the Amur MMA Federation, from the chief judge of the competition. Athletes in the 16-18 age category must wear a helmet to compete. The absence of a helmet is a gross violation of the rules, ”Terentiev said.
Terentiev noted that the Russian MMA Union is also checking the circumstances of the tragedy.

According to the head of the Arkharinsky district, Tatyana Shutrina, who was represented by the athlete, the deceased teenager went to college in Blagoveshchensk and did MMA for no more than a year. “This tragedy does not fit into any framework,” stated Shutrin “Amurskaya Pravda”.
