The Undiplomatic Statement by Blinken: US and Allies Bet on Ukrainian Victory

2023-06-04 09:01:39

This phrase will go down in history!

The chief diplomat of the USA, Secretary of State Anthony Blinken (61), dared to make a completely undiplomatic statement during a visit to the new NATO member Finland on Friday, which should deeply offend the Kremlin.

︎ Blinking with regard to the Ukraine war instigated by Putin: “The Kremlin often claimed that Russia has the second strongest army in the world. Many believed so. Today, many consider Russia’s military the second strongest in Ukraine.”

︎ And further: “Your equipment, technology, leadership, troops, strategy, tactics and morale – a lesson in failure.”

A humiliation for Putin! The mockery was intended to emphasize that the US and its allies are no longer trying to be polite to Putin. A ceasefire or other negotiations will not be back on their agenda until Ukraine gains strength and can negotiate on its own terms. To put it plainly: They are betting on the Ukrainian victory!

Blinken dares more than Obama

Blinken dared to do something that previous US governments had not dared to do. At a nuclear safety summit in The Hague in 2014, then-US President Barack Obama said that Russia was a “regional power” (not a “world power”).

Even this Obama statement became historic, although it was much more reserved: Russian propaganda repeatedly cited it before the Ukraine invasion in 2022 as an example of how cheekily the Western enemy allegedly belittles Russia. Now Blinken clearly surpassed Obama with his statement in tone and content.

Zelenskyy: Ukraine ready for counter-offensive

The reason for this demonstration of strength: the expectations of the coming counter-offensive by the Ukrainian army.

Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy (45) sees the time to liberate the Ukrainian territories from Russian occupation. “I think we’re ready for that today,” he said in an interview with the Wall Street Journal (WSJ), which the US newspaper also published as a video on its website on Saturday.

He further said that Ukraine would have liked to have some more weapons for the offensive once morest the Russian invasion, but might not wait more months for their delivery. He once more called for significantly more US Patriot air defense systems; in the interview he mentioned the number 50. At numerous meetings with Western heads of state and government this week, the President spoke out in favor of a “patriot” coalition to protect Ukrainian airspace. The costs are likely to be in the hundreds of millions of euros.

“Today, Patriot is the only weapon capable of stopping some of the types of missiles that the Russian Federation uses once morest our civilian population, schools, infrastructure and energy systems,” Zelenskyi told WSJ. “50 Patriot batteries and the majority of people don’t die.” According to the US television station CNN, Ukraine is currently likely to have two Patriot systems in use.

Selenskyj in an interview with WSJ: “We believe in success very much. I (but) don’t know how long we need (for that) time.” At the same time, he pointed out that the price for this success would be high. There has been speculation for months regarding the start of the offensive, and at times it was said in Kiev that the operation was already underway.
