The FRAC RÉUNION is proud to announce that its Autofocus project is one of the 8 winning projects of France Culture 2030. Selected among many proposals, Autofocus, a digital and interactive game, has stood out for its bold vision and its ability to revolutionize cultural and artistic experience. It makes it possible to promote the Photographic Funds of Reunion and elsewhere at local, national and international level.

The Ministry of Culture unveiled this Friday the list of winners of its call for projects “Digitization of heritage” as part of France Culture 2030. The only overseas project selected, Autofocus is an interactive and immersive digital role-playing game, imagined by Tatiana Patchama — visual artist, scenographer and exhibition curator. It can be played on smartphone, tablet or deployed in the classroom. It will offer a complete immersion in the world of contemporary art by combining photographic collections from different institutions, such as FRACs, museums, foundations and art centers. Players will be invited to explore these collections, interact with the works, answer questions and participate in activities that will immerse them in the heart of the exhibition curating process.

The FRAC RÉUNION will develop Autofocus in collaboration with the creative studio “Femme Fatale Studio”. This synergy between visual arts players, public sector professionals and digital experts will make it possible to design a game of exceptional quality, preserving the integrity of works of art and offering an unparalleled immersive and educational experience.

Autofocus is part of a process of sustainable transformation of the cultural and creative industries. It aims to go beyond geographical borders and bring together several public collections in a single digital place, thus making it possible to promote overseas collections beyond Reunion Island and to introduce them to a French public. Autofocus also offers a trilingual experience, with versions in English and Reunionese Creole, thus strengthening its accessibility and its local anchorage.

The FRAC Réunion expresses its gratitude to all the partners who have expressed their desire to take over Autofocus to integrate their photographic collections. No less than 11 public collections are today federated around Autofocus. This collaboration with FRACs, museums, foundations and other institutions such as the Artothèque de La Réunion reinforces the diversity and richness of the content available in the game, thus offering a unique immersive experience for users.

This project is also innovative in its economic model: Transparent public funding, from several partners at several levels: Prefecture of La Réunion, Ministry of Culture, FRAC Réunion and the Réunion Region. Thanks to their enthusiasm and support, FRAC Réunion has the necessary resources to develop Autofocus. The overall budget for the project is 325,000 euros.

Autofocus embodies FRAC Réunion’s commitment to cultural dissemination, the promotion of overseas artists and artistic education. It is a major step in the implementation of the Culture Réunion 2030 strategy aimed at boosting the cultural and creative industries and strengthening the links between the overseas territories and the metropolis.
