The family added that they will spread his body today, Sunday, following Asr prayer, in his hometown of Tanta, northern Egypt.
For its part, Al-Azhar University, headed by Dr. Salama Daoud, mourned Dr. Mahmoud Wahba, stressing that he was a model of persistence and defiance in seeking knowledge.
The Grand Imam, Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, Sheikh of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, had directed that Al-Azhar University sponsor the expenses of the late’s treatment following he obtained his doctorate while he was on his sick bed.
The Egyptian researcher obtained a doctorate degree inside a room in a hospital in Egypt, where he was transferred to treatment following suffering from a rare disease, and the college and university councils agreed to hold a discussion committee inside the hospital in which the researcher is being treated.
Wahba’s family was keen to dress him in the uniform of master’s and doctoral thesis discussions on his sick bed, and he was awarded a doctorate degree following discussing his thesis.
