Last week, the Meta Quest 3 was unveiled timidly. But, until now, we just knew this one would be much cheaper than the Quest Pro, aimed at businesses. But Meta boss Mark Zuckerberg has just officially unveiled the VR headset on Instagram. The Meta Quest 3 will therefore arrive this fall, for an introductory price of €569.99.
Compared to its predecessor, the Quest 2, the Quest 3 is lighter and more comfortable, with a “40% thinner profile“, while a new Snapdragon chip inside delivers twice the graphics performance. Quest 3 is also compatible with Quest 2 games, which is a good thing. Indeed, Meta specified that its launch would be accompanied by a bsignificant increase in the price of the Quest 2. Additionally, an upcoming software update for the Quest 2 and Quest Pro will increase CPU and GPU performance.
The Meta Quest 3 displays three new sensor zones on the front of the device, which distinguishes it from its little brother, the Quest 2. This one thus has four cameras equally distributed between the left and right sides – two color cameras and two standard cameras – as well as a depth sensor in the middle.
This depth sensor aims to provide augmented reality, in addition to traditional virtual reality. In other words, it will be possible to mix virtual reality and reality. Indeed, this technology aims to integrate this technology into the decor where you are, allowing better grip and more comfortable use.
At the moment, Meta hasn’t announced any specific release date, although we should learn more during the Meta Quest Showcase, taking place today. We only know that the Meta Quest 3 headset is due out sometime in the fall of 2023.
