Animal essay: The Food Project by the Brazilian photographer is successful around the world transforming birds into “models”.
With a career spanning more than 25 years, photographer Nuno Papp from Curitiba has established himself as one of the big names in the national market. His photographs have already been featured in campaigns for major brands, such as O Boticário and Banco do Brasil, and have also been featured in award-winning advertisements at festivals in Cannes, New York and Buenos Aires. Now, Nuno has conquered the world in a very unusual way: taking, in his The Food Project, birds to his studio in the capital of Paraná and transforming them into “models”.
In “The Food Project”, his most recent project, Nuno promotes the humanization of animals and encourages reflection on man’s relationship with food
In “The Food Project”, Nuno presents impressive portraits of the birds he raises in his farm, in the city of Almirante Tamandaré, in the Metropolitan Region of Curitiba, with the purpose of promoting the appreciation of animals and stimulating reflection on our relationship with food that we consume. “The project also takes a critical look at his own work in the fashion and beauty industry, challenging viewers to question established standards and the way we value aesthetics over other essential issues”, highlights the photographer.
Contact with nature
On his farm, Nuno has the opportunity to truly immerse himself in nature, raising animals and absorbing the serenity of the countryside. This powerful experience is what enriches his art, influencing his projects and conferring a unique authenticity. Obviously, all the creativity and excellence of the photographer’s work resulted in a unique, intense project that did not go unnoticed.
Selected in various events
“The Food Project” is conquering the Planet, and since last year it has been selected for important world photography events. Last May, for example, Nuno’s birds gained prominence at the Kolga Festival, held at MOMA Tbilisi, in Tbilisi, Georgia. This is the biggest photo festival in the Caucasus, the famous region that encompasses part of Eastern Europe and Western Asia, between the Black Sea and the Caspian Sea.
In addition, in recent months, “The Food Project” was selected for the famous Meeting Fotofest, an event that brings together photographers and curators from all corners of the world in Houston, United States; and, last January, he graced the cover of Fotomagazin magazine, from Hamburg, Germany, one of the great references in world photography. With the international relevance of his work, Nuno very intensely disseminates images that capture the essence and beauty of the animal world in a very peculiar way, provoking reflections and challenging conventions.
Photobook
“’The Food Project’ is a project that makes me very proud, mainly because it generates a very interesting wave of discussion regarding the role of animals and food in our lives, fulfilling their artistic and social function. I am very satisfied with the positive repercussions around the world, going far beyond what I really imagined”, completes the photographer. Next, the material from “The Food Project” will also include a photobook with special recipes, developed by the professional, who is also passionate regarding gastronomy.
