Berlin’s Greens leader Susanne Mertens (54) has called for a return to power in the capital: “In 2026 we must be the force that no one who wants to help shape can avoid.”

After the repeat election, the Berlin SPD switched from the Greens/Left Party to the CDU. In her speech at the party conference in the MOA Hotel (Moabit), she left open whether the party leader would head for a coalition with the CDU or SPD following the next election.

On the other hand, the current faction leader Bettina Jarasch (54) became clear: “We can no longer rely on the SPD alone.”

Mertens accused the currently ruling black-red coalition of a coalition agreement with a cornucopia of false promises and a roll backwards. Ironically, she listed what awaits her in the near future: “The forced dismantling of bicycle racks in front of office buildings, a debate regarding the abolition of vegetarian meals in canteens and new dress codes.”

Mertens: “Berlin has no time for clientele politics!” The party was accused of precisely this before the repeat election, even in the fight once morest the car.

Low blow once morest Kai Wegner & Co.: “The CDU continues where it left off – with party donations from the construction industry.” In 2020, construction entrepreneur Christoph Gröner (55) and one of his companies donated 820,000 euros to the Berlin CDU – totally legal.

By the way: gendering lives on in the eco-party. At the beginning all “guests” were welcomed.
