Green Bay Packers News: Jordan Love’s Contract Extension and NFL Draft Pick Insights

There’s quarterback news from Green Bay once more. After Packers legend Aaron Rodgers kept the NFL busy for the past few weeks and months, it’s now regarding his successor Jordan Love. The new starting quarterback is said to have agreed on a new contract with the Packers.

As reported by Adam Schefter from “ESPN”, among others, the Wisconsin franchise has agreed with its new quarterback on an extension for the 2024 season. Love can then earn up to $22.5 million, with $13.5 million fully guaranteed.

Since Love was a first-round pick, the Packers might also have drawn the fifth-year option for their quarterback, which would also have tied to Green Bay in 2024. The deadline for the Fifth Year Option was May 2nd. In that case, Love would have been fully guaranteed $20.27 million for the season.

The quarterback can now earn a little more than two million billion more, but has a significantly lower guaranteed amount anchored in his contract. A compromise that both parties seem to be able to live with.

The Packers picked Love in the first round of the 2020 draft. To date, however, the playmaker has not progressed beyond the role of Aaron Rodgers’ backup and has only played ten games for Green Bay, in which he had 606 rushing yards and three touchdowns.

Packers draft pass receiver for Love

In order to be able to use and assess their new starting quarterback correctly, the NFL Draft heavily upgraded the offense.

While the defense was strengthened with Lukas Van Ness (Edge, Iowa) on the first day, Green Bay subsequently secured four pass receivers.

In addition to the two tight ends Luke Musgrave (Oregon State) and Tucker Kraft (South Dakota State), wide receiver Jayden Reed (Michigan State) was also picked on day two. Dontayvion Wicks, another Virginia wide receiver, followed in the fifth round.
