The Lebanese army arrested two wanted persons responsible for the kidnapping of the Saudi, Mashari Turki Al-Mutairi, in a tight ambush in the Bekaa Valley, in the south of the country.

The Lebanese army said in statement “A special group from the Intelligence Directorate was able to arrest the wanted (J.J.) in the Bekaa region, who is responsible for planning and managing the kidnapping.”

The statement added that the detainee played an “essential role” in the kidnapping, “by securing a hideout, military weapons, masks, a stolen car, and directing the gang members in the field.”

The statement indicated that “in conjunction with the previous arrest, the Directorate carried out an elaborate ambush in the town of Debbieh – the Chouf, and succeeded in arresting the citizen (A.H.), who is a member of the armed gang who pursued the kidnapped, forced him to stop, and took him to the Bekaa.”

The statement added that the authorities began “interrogating the detainees under the supervision of the competent judiciary, and follow-up is underway to arrest the rest of the gang members.”

On Tuesday, the Lebanese army announced that it had freed a Saudi citizen in a “qualitative operation” at the Lebanese-Syrian border, two days following he was kidnapped in Beirut.

The Saudi citizen was kidnapped, on Sunday, by unknown persons in the clothes of security personnel in a four-wheel-drive vehicle at the Beirut waterfront, where he was in a restaurant, according to a prominent security source told AFP on Monday.

And the Saudi Al-Ekhbariya channel reported, on Monday, that the Saudi citizen works for Saudi Airlines, and the kidnappers demanded a financial ransom.

Although the incident is not the first of its kind, Lebanon has rarely witnessed in recent years kidnappings of Arab or foreign nationals.
