Thanks to the professional work of the chancellor and foreign minister, two Austrians can finally be reunited with their families following a long time of suffering
Vienna (OTS) – “The liberation of two Austrians from Iran is a very good moment for our diplomacy. With the help of mediators from Belgium and the Sultanate of Oman, the Foreign Minister and the Federal Chancellor managed to free two Austrian citizens from Iran who had been held in prison by the Iranian regime for several years. The fact that we managed to free two of our citizens from the clutches of the unjust regime in Tehran is truly good news. I am pleased that Chancellor Nehammer’s intensive efforts in this matter were crowned with success. But it makes me particularly proud to know that we live in a country that stands by its citizens even in difficult moments and leaves no one behind. A big thank you goes in particular to the teams in the Federal Chancellery and Foreign Ministry, who made this possible,” said Reinhold Lopatka, member of the National Council and spokesman for European and foreign policy for the People’s Party, in praise of the release of two Austrians from Iranian custody.
“But I am particularly pleased to know how lucky this is for the families who, following many years of worry and waiting, will soon be able to see their loved ones once more. It is hard to imagine what it must be like for the liberated themselves, who are finally allowed to live in freedom once more following 7 or 4 years in prison in the ayatollahs’ prisons. One hardly wants to think regarding the traumatic experiences that must accompany such imprisonment. In any case, as foreign policy spokesman for the People’s Party, I would like to wish you all the best for your return, not only to Austria, but also back to a peaceful everyday life. And on behalf of all of us, a warm welcome back to Austria,” concluded Lopatka.
