Forced to retire from the Tour of Italy following a positive Covid test on May 14, Remco Evenepoel will return to competition on the Tour of Switzerland. The national loop will start on June 11 in Einsiedeln.
“Picking up in Switzerland is the perfect start. This will allow me to find a race that reminds me of great things”, said the Belgian in a press release from the Soudal-Quick Step team. Last season, Remco Evenepoel won the 8th and final stage of the Tour de Suisse, a time trial in Vaduz.
After this stage race and the Belgian championships, the native of Schepdaal will leave for Val di Fassa in Italy to take part in a 2-week team camp in order to prepare for the defense of his title at the World Championships in Glasgow, at the beginning of August.
Six times victorious this season, notably from Liège-Bastogne-Liège, Evenepoel had quickly brushed aside the idea of participating in the Tour de France.
