Since 2017, fans of William Blazkowicz have been stranded. We last stood up to the Nazi regime in Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus, and since then fans have been eagerly awaiting a new installment in the long-established series. A job advertisement finally indicates a sequel – but at the moment it’s all regarding rumors and speculation.
The Wolfenstein series isn’t exactly known for its squeamishness. Things get serious when William Joseph ‘BJ’ Blazkowicz hunts down Nazi henchmen. The series has existed since 1981, Machine Games restarted it with Wolfenstein: The New Order in 2014. Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus followed in 2017, and since then it has been quiet regarding the edgy main character.

Co-op spin-off Youngblood hardly provided a true replacement for die-hard fans, and now a job posting from the studio is raising hope. We are looking for a senior animator, which of course does not yet indicate a fresh Wolfenstein. For this suspicion you have to read between the lines and maybe be blinded by hope.
One requirement for the applicant is that he or she has a “passion for video games and especially immersive first-person games”. This means that the Indiana Jones title that Machine Games is known to be working on can probably be ruled out. Because here a third-person adventure is much closer, and the job advertisement also states that good knowledge of the previous portfolio is desired.
In addition, the future senior animator should have experience in animating “creatures or four-legged character” characters. Panzerhund, I hear you trapping.
So we can be curious to see what Machine Games will finally pull out of the hat. Rumor has it that a new Quake might also be in the works. Hopefully we’ll be smarter on June 11, 2023. The Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase will take place on this date, as the studio is known to belong to the Microsoft subsidiary ZeniMax.
