Mexico City: 45 bags of remains were found in a canyon in Mexico. The incident took place in Jalisco, western Mexico. The bags were found during a search for seven people missing since May 20. The state prosecutor’s office said in a statement that it contained the bodies of a man and a woman.
Five men and two women went missing on different days. They all worked in the same call center. This call center is located in the same area where human body parts were found. But it has not been confirmed whether the bodies of the missing persons are in the bags. This can be clarified only through forensic examination. The initial conclusion is that the call center may be involved in illegal activities. Local media also reported that the authorities found cannabis, blood-stained cloths and documents of some transactions from here. Relatives of the missing accused the authorities of trying to make the victims criminals.
Remains have been found in Jalisco before. In 2021, 70 bags containing the remains of 11 people were found in the municipality of Tonala, Jalisco. In 2019, the bodies of 29 people were found in 119 bags in an uninhabited area of Zapopan. In March 2018, the bodies of three students were found. In the first two months of this year alone, the body parts of 33 people were reportedly recovered from the region. More than 300,000 people have been killed in Mexico since the controversial drug crackdown that began in December 2006. About one lakh people are missing.
