Raiffeisen director Heinz Huber believes that Swiss Post’s universal service mandate for payment transactions should be put out to public tender. The banking group is interested in applying, he adds.

“We meet the required conditions. Raiffeisen has the largest network of bank branches, with a physical presence in more than 800 locations,” added Mr. Huber in an interview broadcast Friday by the newspapers of the press group CH-Media. La Poste had 772 offices at the end of March 2023, according to the titles.

The boss of Raiffeisen, on the other hand, rejects a reinforcement of Postfinance. “Competition is already working very well. We don’t need another public institution granting loans.”
