Tough threat from Rummenigge
After the vote once morest a Bundesliga investor, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge takes the opponents of the deal to court. He even brings the end of central marketing into play.
The failed vote on an investor at the DFL was a thorn in the side of the big clubs in particular last week.
Now has too Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, the new member of the supervisory board of the FC Bayernreported and a gloomy prognosis for the future of the solidarity community Bundesliga shown.
“I’ve been wondering since last Tuesday, where is the investment supposed to come from?” the 67-year-old explained at the SpoBis sports business congress in Düsseldorf and said: “Last week, 16 clubs canceled the central marketing of the DFL.”
At the meeting of the 36 professional clubs in Frankfurt/Main, the necessary two-thirds majority for starting negotiations with potential financiers was missed.
There were only 20 yes votes. Eleven clubs voted once morest, five abstained. The DFL had promised fresh capital of around two billion euros from the investor deal.
Rummenigge: “Non-solidarity behavior of the 16 clubs”
The long-time CEO of Bayern spoke of “a lack of solidarity on the part of the 16 clubs”, which should be understood in such a way that “you have to recommend your own club that we market ourselves.”
He does not wish “that there is a separation between the first and second divisions,” emphasized Rummenigge: “But I wouldn’t rule it out either. Because this vote was a gauntlet that had never existed before in this quality.”
According to Rummenigge, the international competitiveness of the Bundesliga is already on the brink: “We are disastrously positioned in foreign marketing. We once had a forecast of 850 million euros – now we are at 160. The money is missing in every till.”
