Russia’s Wagner commander, Yevgeny Prigozhin, said Thursday that his military group is ready to fight in Ukraine if it gets a separate section of the front without having to rely on the “clowns” who run the Russian army.
Celebrating his 62nd birthday today in a training camp, Prigozhin confirmed that “his men will finally leave the city of Bakhmut in eastern Ukraine on June 5 following handing it over to the Russian army.”
“If the whole leadership fails 100 percent, if it is going to be run by clowns who only turn people into meat, we will not be involved in it,” he added.
He added that his operatives wanted to rest in the Russian-controlled camps in Ukraine for regarding a month, and “following that things will become clearer.”
“It’s been a tough year. We’ll see following that how it goes,” he explained.
For months, the 61-year-old restaurant owner has been attacking Russia’s top military leaders, led by Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu and Chief of Staff Valery Gerasimov.
Criticism sometimes reached the point of accusing them of treason and possible involvement in a “crime” before or during the Ukraine war.
“Today I sent letters to the Investigative Committee and the Prosecutor’s Office of the Russian Federation with a request to verify the possible commission of a crime by a group of high-ranking officials of the Ministry of Defense in the preparation and implementation of the special military operation,” Prigozhin said.
He added: “These messages will not be published because the investigative authorities will deal with them.”
Prigozhin’s group is fighting alongside Russian regular forces in Ukraine and has led a months-long offensive on the eastern city of Bakhmut, which fell to the Russians earlier this month.
