The Russian army confirmed, on Thursday, that it had repelled, with its air force and artillery, an attempt to “invade” Ukraine to a Russian border area, in which dozens of soldiers and tanks participated.
The Russian Ministry of Defense said on Telegram: “After intensive bombing of civilian facilities in the Belgorod region, Ukrainian terrorist groups numbering two companies of infantry, reinforced with tanks, attempted to invade Russian territory.”
Russian news agencies, “Tass”, also quoted the Ministry of Defense as saying that its forces had thwarted three Ukrainian attacks on the Belgorod region bordering Ukraine.
It added that its forces prevented the Ukrainian units from crossing the border into Russia and repelled the attack.
Earlier in the day, Belgorod’s governor Vyacheslav Gladkov said eight people were wounded and several buildings were destroyed overnight by shelling by Ukrainian forces.
He added that the fire broke out in a residential building in the border city of Chebekino following it was bombed with Grad missile systems.
