Pedro Messone: Remembering the Life and Legacy of the National Folk Music Award Winner

This Thursday morning the death of the 2018 national folk music award was confirmed, Pedro Messone, at the age of 88, at the El Salvador de Providencia hospital.

The information was provided by the musician, maestro Horacio Saavedra, on his Instagram account, where he published a tribute to Messone and reported his death.

“Rest in Peace in the arms of the Lord, Pedro Messone, Glory of our music,” says Saavedra’s publication.

Messone was born in Temuco but in his youth he moved to Valparaíso, where he met Luis “Chino” Urquidi, with whom he shared his interest in American jazz and European folklore. This friendship led him to join the vocal group Los Cuatro Cuartos, with whom he achieved his first successes, to later enter the world of acting and also launch himself as a soloist.

His first important stage was the Viña Festival in 1965 with the song “El corralero”, which won second place. From then on, new successes would come at Quinta Vergara solo and as part of the Los Aucas group.
