Work is planned to refurbish the area concerned, the Complementary Infrastructure Financing Company (Sofico) told Belga on Wednesday evening.
“A truck overturned while dumping its cargo. There is a risk of having to plan the road because of the spilled fuel oil. The motorway might be closed between the border and the Dour exit in the direction of Mons until tomorrow, ”said Eric Thiébaut, mayor of Hensies on his Facebook page at the start of the evening.
“Cleaning is not enough and the roadway remains slippery,” said Sofico with its partner SPW Mobilité Infrastructure. “A micro-planing is planned to remove a very thin layer of roadwork to improve grip and free up the left lane before rush hour Thursday morning. The speed will be limited to 50km/h. »
Other work is already planned for Friday morning. “The work will begin around 4:00 or 5:00 with scraping and the laying of a new surface in the morning on the emergency lane and the right-hand lane. In the followingnoon, it will be the turn of the left band, ”said Sofico once more.
Work is expected to be completed before rush hour Friday evening.
The incident caused major traffic congestion on Wednesday followingnoon and a detour has been put in place.
