The Dresden Higher Regional Court has sentenced the alleged left-wing extremist Lina E. to five years and three months in prison. The court assumed that Lina E. and three other co-defendants were members of a criminal organization and had committed attacks on members of the right-wing scene.

Now the police in Leipzig, where Lina E. was active before being taken into custody, are expecting that there will be riots the day following tomorrow, Saturday. Autonomous groups have called for a “Day X” demonstration in Leipzig on Saturday following the verdict. Violent left-wing groups are expected to arrive from across Europe. Their threat: “One million euros in property damage for each sentenced year”.

“All the findings available to the Leipzig police department allow the prognostic conclusion that people willing and seeking violence will also travel to Leipzig and commit crimes,” the police said. She appealed to participants to ensure that it remains non-violent.

Interjections in the courtroom

After the sentence had been announced, the presiding judge, Hans Schlueter-Staats, interrupted the hearing because spectators chanted “Faschofreunde” and “fucking class justice” to the bench.

The allegations once morest Lina E. and the other suspects weighed heavily. The Federal Public Prosecutor accused them of brutally beating up actual or supposed supporters of the right-wing scene in Leipzig, Wurzen and Eisenach between 2018 and 2020. E. is considered the head of the group by the prosecution.

In at least two cases she is said to have been in command. A key witness had incriminated the accused. According to the indictment, 13 people were injured, two of them potentially life-threatening. Another allegation was that the accused had rejected the democratic constitutional state as well as the state monopoly on the use of force.

For the defense, only acquittals came into question, they consider the process to be politically motivated and conducted in the wrong place. The mere fact that the Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office took over the investigation led to higher criminal charges, she argued in her pleadings. The court was accused of being biased.
