The U18 women of Stade Malherbe Caen will try to write a new page in the history of the club, Sunday June 4, 2023. They will go to Sochaux in the return barrage to the U19 National with a goal in advance. Sunday May 28, 2023, the young Caennaises won 3-2 following being down 2-0. Sarah Chauvin, the captain, salutes the state of mind of her team.

Sarah, you showed that you had character by turning the situation once morest Sochaux.

We showed that we had a lot of mentality and that we knew how to bounce back from situations where we were put in difficulty. A match like that is played on the mind, clearly. We have shown that we are capable of responding in this area.

How was the feeling at half-time?

At halftime, we were just determined. Seeing that they taunted us did not please us at all, conceding two goals when we might take the upper hand was very frustrating. We came back to the field more determined. We just wanted to turn the situation around.

There were a lot of people at the Venoix stadium, which is a mythical stadium in Caen. It must be beautiful to live!

Of course ! It changes, because we are used to playing on small pitches in front of only our parents. There were people from everywhere. It’s an additional pressure, but a positive pressure that pushes us. It helped us a lot to come back in this game.

“Show the same determination”

How was the season for you? It was more contested than last season…

Yes. We started the championship more slowly. We lost once morest Quevilly. From there, we said to ourselves: “no, it is not possible”. If we wanted to access the roadblocks, we had to react. We forged a real mentality in this difficulty.

How is the team made up?

There are Caennaises who started football in other clubs, girls who come from the Channel, new players, players who already made the play-offs last season… I think that we, the old ones, knew well guiding the news in this kind of high-stakes game.

Should we imagine a vengeful Sochaux team next Sunday?

For sure. They will be determined. At home, they will necessarily want to start hard to come back directly. We will have to show the same determination that we showed in the first leg in the second half. We will have to play the match as if we were at 0-0, trying to win.

“The good season to climb”

Personally, what is your background in football?

I have been at the club for three years. Before, I had played for eight years at AS Cahagnes with the boys. I came to the detections three years ago, when I entered second.

This is your last U18 year. The goal is to be in D3 next year with the seniors?

The goal is to play in D3 and especially to get the girls up. We want to build this team!

You played once morest Metz in the play-off last season. Was it above Sochaux?

Yes. There was high intensity throughout the game. We knew it was going to be difficult to get the upper hand mentally. Sochaux does not have the same level. It’s the right season to go up.
