The People’s Party continues to advocate progress instead of ban mania in climate protection
Vienna (OTS) – “It’s a contradiction in terms when scientists block science,” said the General Secretary of the People’s Party, Christian Stocker, in response to statements by a German professor in the daily newspaper Der Standard, who criticized e-fuels in general. “Particularly when it comes to freeing ourselves from the clutches of energy dependency, we in Europe must not make the mistake of imposing bans on one another’s thinking. It must be clear to all of us that research and openness to technology will be the most effective contributions to combating climate change. When it comes to e-mobility or e-fuels, there is no ‘either-or’, but ‘both-and’. The mantra-like demonization of combustion engines is a pure ideology-driven culture of prohibition by ‘bogus climate activists’. One has to ask oneself why these demands only exist in the EU. Because for the rest of the world it is clear: bans will not save the climate. If the EU is serious regarding climate protection, it must focus on exporting climate-neutral technologies to the world and not putting blinkers on itself,” said Stocker, who referred to statements by experts who, like Chancellor Karl Nehammer, advocate express openness to technology.
For example Prof. Dr. Robert Schlögl (founding director of the Max Planck Institute for Chemical Energy Conversion, Vice President of the National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina in Germany, government advisor in Germany) at the Auto Summit: “First and foremost, I would give up this prejudice that the generation of e -Fuels is very inefficient. That is not right (…). So you can do a production that is relatively energy efficient.”
“By phasing out combustion engines, we are not only becoming dependent on China, which has the resources necessary for electromobility. But we would also sacrifice tens of thousands of jobs. This adds another long-term problem: All the know-how that we have collected in Austria and within the Union in the mobility sector will migrate to other countries such as China, India or America,” emphasizes Stocker, who finally explains: “We must not limit ourselves to one type of drive. In addition to electromobility, the green combustion engine will play an important role in the future. The People’s Party continues to work for progress instead of ban mania in climate protection.”
