A RAVeL linking Landen to Huy (along the old line 127) then from Huy to Marchin (along line 126) is an old dream cherished by the municipal authorities of the various municipalities crossed. The Region has announced its desire to invest in various developments to create a clean site crossing the villages of Huccorgne and Moha. If the RAVeL will trace its route along the old railway line at Moha, it will only be for a hundred meters. Initially, it is planned that the track joins the rue Val Notre-Dame and its cycle path to find the N64 further on in Wanze. But the idea of continuing the RAVeL via the old railway line to cross Wanze and reach Statte station has not been forgotten since the Region and Infrabel are continuing their contacts in this direction.
On the other hand, the crossing of Huy to join Marchin via the old line 126 remains problematic. A few years ago, the municipal authorities and the Region were working on a RAVeL which would span the Meuse via the Iron Bridge then which would pass through the tunnel under the Fort hill and continue to Marchin along the railway.
“It is no longer on the agenda, we are told in the office of the Minister of Mobility and Infrastructure, Philippe Henry. It’s too insecure and it requires too big an investment.”
Nicolas Parent, co-president of Écolo Wanze (and federal deputy until recently) and who worked with mayor Christophe Lacroix to move the file forward, also recognizes this. “We preferred to move forward on what is more quickly feasible”note Nicolas Parent.
Éric Dosogne, Mayor of Huy ff, also believes that the idea of having the RAVeL pass over the Iron Bridge, along the railway line, no longer holds water. “Even if they are rare, there is still a freight train from time to time. And I am delighted because it means that there are always jobs in the Hoyoux valley, in Marchin. Since Statte station, the RAVeL will join the banks of the Meuse to cross the river via the Baudouin bridge.
