The name of Eduardo “Wado” De Pedro gained strength in the midst of the internal uncertainty that the Frente de Todos is going through to define his proposal for the next presidential elections. In keeping with the speculation that points to him as the one chosen by Cristina Kirchner, the Minister of the Interior began to move as another candidate forced to gain volume.
“Wado is coming”, read the posters that papered several districts of the Buenos Aires suburbs following the act that the Vice President led last week to celebrate 20 years of Kirchnerism.
Also in the last hours it transpired that the leader already received the blessing of Cristina Kirchnerwho proposed that “the children of the decimated generation be the ones to take over.”
But the endorsement of their own is not enough in an officialism that faces a scenario of extreme complexity and runs the risk of be left out of a possible runoffas the former president pointed out when talking regarding the phenomenon linked to the parity of the forces that seek to reach the Casa Rosada.
For this reason, simultaneously with this incipient campaign, the national official and benchmark of La Cámpora intensified movements: in recent days he shared events with the Minister of Economy, Sergio Massa; with the authorities of the Evita Movement; he increased his public appearances and his incursions into the territory at the hands of governors and mayors.
On Tuesday, the Minister of the Interior dedicated his agenda to the province of Buenos Aires, where he led the meeting of the Governing Council of the Colorado River Basin Committee with Buenos Aires Governor Axel Kicillof, and undertook a tour of the first and third sections electoral.
Wado was in the party of San Vicente, commanded by the Peronist Nicolás Mantegazza, and Berazategui, where the historical referent of Buenos Aires Peronism Juan José Mussi governs. And later he moved to Malvinas Argentinas, to share an act with the Minister of Infrastructure and Public Services of the Province of Buenos Aires, Leonardo Nardini, and the interim mayor of the municipality, Noelia Correa.
De Pedro included in his speech a warning regarding “characters who talk regarding freedom” and what do they propose “that the State has to disappear”. Without mentioning it, he targeted La Libertad Avanza presidential hopeful Javier Milei, who also became a target of criticism from Cristina Kirchner and President Alberto Fernández.
“We are working hard to bring together Argentine men and women who want to change things, thinking of new solutions for new problems, and The challenge is that you receive a slightly better Argentina from us.. While your challenge will be to leave a slightly better Argentina to the generation that succeeds you”, De Pedro summoned.
“Wado” De Pedro moves as a candidate: what is the role of the governors
The presence of only three governors at the Plaza de Mayo event headed by Cristina Kirchner suggested that even the electoral strategy did not mature that the majority of the Peronist governors will give themselves. In the box were Axel Kicillof, Alicia Kirchner and the re-elected Ricardo Quintela. Regarding the absences, it was argued that that day the leaders had their respective acts in the provinces for May 25.
For example, on stage, next to Cristina Kirchner, was José Mayans, the head of the senator bloc and political partner of Governor Gildo Insfrán. In Formosa you vote on June 25 (the same as in Córdoba). Insfrán, who is going for re-electionwas also confirmed weeks ago as president of the National Justicialista Congress and responsible for leading political negotiations with other spaces.
Votes are held on June 11 in San Luis and Tucumán. Three days later, the Peronist governors will meet at the headquarters of the Federal Investment Council, in CABA. It is expected that electoral definitions will emerge from that summit.
Until now, the governors have kept their opinion on the internal of the Frente de Todos in reserve. Only Quintela and Raúl Jalil from Catamarca expressed their sympathies with Wado De Pedroalthough they did not do so conclusively either.
The governors recognize the minister’s closeness to the provincial administrations. Last year, De Pedro accompanied two missions abroad of governors of the Norte Grande. It is also true that the leaders also recognize that another presidential candidate, Daniel Scioli, focused the efforts of the embassy in Brasilia to boost regional economies in the neighboring country. Jorge Capitanich, from Chaco, will receive De Pedro this Wednesday to inaugurate works in the port de Barranqueras, which were financed by the Federal Regional Infrastructure Program. Of course, the speculations regarding the meeting are already rolling: the version that indicates that the Minister of the Interior would be the presidential candidate promoted by Cristina Kirchner in agreement with the Frente Renovador and Sergio Massa, also admits the need to complete the formula with a representative of the provinces, to design “a pair federal”.
