We often talk regarding it, especially with the RTL info / Test Achats baskets: inflation is galloping in Belgium, especially in supermarkets (+20% in 1 year). All prices are rising, and there are repercussions on our habits. A recent survey suggests that Belgians are saving money on fresh produce…
In effect, a quarter of Belgians say they buy less fresh fruit and vegetablesand this for budgetary reasons, can we conclude from a survey carried out by iVOX on behalf of Aldi. It is quite paradoxical, however, because no less than 9 out of 10 Belgians consider fresh fruit and vegetables to be… an important element of their diet. But despite this, consumers have therefore reduced their consumption of fresh produce.
Promotions more important than ever
To continue to consume enough fresh fruit and vegetables, consumers therefore resort to different means to achieve savings, starting with promotions which are more important than ever, explains the study. “Nearly 4 out of 5 Belgians attach great importance to promotions on fresh fruit and vegetables. Half of them (51%) now pay more attention than before the crisis to discounts granted to products from the department More than half of consumers say they only buy certain fruits and vegetables when they are on sale. 7 out of 10 Belgians even deviate from their shopping list when they see a promotion in the fresh section”.
iVox survey, conducted online with a representative sample of 1,000 Belgians (margin of error: 2%) last April.
