It is estimated that it was not ejected from the 3rd section of the Nuri.
Ministry of Science and ICT “There is no signal to open and close the ejection tube door”
Plans for detailed analysis to identify the cause for 1-2 months
On the 25th, an analysis result showed that Toyosaat Unit 3, which went up into space on the ‘Korean launch vehicle’ Nuri, but whose whereregardings were unknown, did not appear to have been ejected normally from a three-stage rocket.
The Ministry of Science and ICT announced on the 30th that as a result of checking the data obtained during the flight of the Nuri, it is estimated that the No. 3 ‘Dasol’ was not ejected from the Nuri’s 3-stage rocket. Toyosaat was designed to be stored in an ejection tube that looks like a drawer, and when it reaches a predetermined altitude, it is designed to be ejected out of the ejection tube by the force of a spring inside the ejection tube.
‘Toyosat’, a mini-satellite (cube satellite) developed by the Korea Astronomical Research Institute, is a cluster satellite consisting of four satellites. During the launch of Nuri on the 25th, Toyosaat Units 1, 2, and 4 were ejected into space normally at an altitude of 550 km, but it was not confirmed whether Unit 3 was ejected.
This is because the area where the Toyosat 3 ejection tube was installed was a blind spot for the camera attached to the Nuri. The signal from Toyosat 3 was also not caught by the ground station, raising questions regarding its whereregardings. However, the Toyosaat Unit 3 might not be ejected and was orbiting the Earth while being contained in the Nuri-ho 3-stage rocket.
The Ministry of Science and ICT cited the fact that the ‘signal for opening and closing the ejection tube door’ and the ‘measurement of the acceleration of the third-stage rocket’ were not confirmed as the basis for making this judgment.
First of all, it means that there is no ‘direct evidence’ that the ejection tube door of the Nuriho 3-stage rocket was opened and the cube satellite protruded into outer space. Also, there was no ‘indirect evidence’ that the posture of the 3-stage rocket was slightly shaken due to the impact that occurred at the moment the cube satellite popped out.
The Ministry of Science and ICT said, “The Korea Aerospace Research Institute will immediately begin analyzing the remote reception information obtained during the pre-launch process to determine the cause,” and “will discuss with experts in related fields such as satellites for one to two months.” Explained.
“The Nuri has performed a successful flight, and it often happens that cube satellites that are exposed to extreme environments are not ejected even from overseas launch vehicles,” said Director General of Massive Public Research Policy of the Ministry of Science and ICT in Chosun Studies. We will support them to carry out missions in space.”
