Beirut, Lebanon (CNN) – A Lebanese military source revealed, in exclusive statements to CNN in Arabic, the scenes of the process of liberating the Saudi citizen who was kidnapped in Lebanon, Mashari Al-Mutairi, considering that the kidnappings are not aimed at obtaining a ransom only, but also to put pressure on the security forces. And on how the Lebanese army liberated Al-Mutairi, the Lebanese military source said that the process of tracking the kidnapped Saudi citizen “started from Al-Bial, where he was staying up, examining surveillance cameras and communications.”
He added, “We determined the geographical location of the kidnappers, their movements, and the link between them, then we started raiding the area to which the head of the gang belongs, and we raided their Captagon factory to put more pressure on them.”
He explained that “following the operations of pressure on them and the arrest of people involved in the kidnapping, we were able to reach their place on the border, and we carried out the operation in the Al-Qasr area in Hermel within the Lebanese territories on the Syrian border.”
He continued, “We carried out the operation quickly in cooperation with people in the area who helped us, because when the official there saw that we entered with this force, he fled into Syrian territory. When pressure increases on him and their homes are raided, they flee and leave the victim as usual, because they are cowards.”
The source believed that the kidnappings aim to put pressure on the Lebanese army and security and the kidnapping and drug gangs are cooperating with each other to return to carrying out their activities inside Lebanese territory.
He said, “The reasons, in addition to being financial, have become known to kidnapping gangs. Sometimes they react to practices, for example they want to break the morale of the army and security services, so they carry out such an operation.” He added, “Maybe they don’t need the ransom money, but they want to hit the prestige of the security forces.”
Regarding the method of targeting the victims of kidnappings, the source said that the gangs are looking for a person who shows signs of wealth, and they seek the help of their followers in some luxurious cafes or restaurants, and they monitor the victims for a certain period until they are hunted.
He added that operations to free the abductees usually witness the kidnappers escaping into Syrian territory, and continued: “But this time we were able to arrest the accomplices in the kidnapping, but the mastermind or beneficiary of this operation is still inside Syrian territory.”
