He’s one of the faces of Dortmunder shell failure. Maybe it is Marco Reus (33) even THE face of the botched BVB championship.

When Borussia was only runners-up in their own stadium on Saturday with a 2-2 win over Mainz and the Bayern snagged the title at the last minute with a 2-1 win in Cologne, and fans and players in both arenas were overflowing with emotion following the final whistle.

Despite the vice failure, almost 30,000 fans in Dortmund’s yellow wall celebrated their stars, comforted them and thanked them for the – overall – strong Bundesliga-Saison.

The team stood in front of the stands for minutes, coach Edin Terzic howled uncontrollably. But one was missing. Marco Reus failed to stand in front of the fans.

“Then he has to return his contract” Clear Reus requirement in the studio

The captain, who finally wanted to celebrate his first German championship in his long career and came on for Karim Adeyemi in the 40th minute, was literally devastated on the pitch. And kept silent.

Now Reus speaks publicly for the first time and apologizes to the fans: “I know you called me – but I was too broken at that moment to get into your arms.”

What an admission from the BVB captain, who just extended his expiring contract by a year in the week before the league final.

Reus broken – how much can the offensive star actually help BVB in the future?

In terms of sport, Reus is now only a substitute, as a leader he shouldn’t get any stronger with this latest master crack.

His colleagues can certainly take an example from his statement on the internet platform. Because there he chooses courageous open words. Reus writes to the Dortmund fans: “It’s currently difficult for me to put my thoughts, feelings and emotions into words. But it’s still very important to me to say thank you to YOU!”

Reus continued: “What the BVB family did for us on Saturday, the euphoria, the atmosphere around the stadium, the good wishes that were received and felt from all over Germany, that’s unique!! And all of that shows us how special this club and its fans are. Your reaction following the game completely overwhelmed me emotionally. I was speechless and totally lost at first.”

Then Reus’ admission follows: “I know you called me to you – but I was too broken at that moment to come into your arms. Nevertheless, with your positive reaction, you made it clear to me what is worth fighting for.”

And finally, Reus writes that the club will also put up with this setback with the help of the fans: “Yes, it hurts, yes, we haven’t been that close for a long time – but: Anyone who knows me, this club and you BVB fans, who knows we will get back up, keep working and fighting – just like this great club has always done! Thanks.”

The lost championship was also a heavy blow for the fans. But Reus’ words should also help to heal the wounds of BVB supporters over time.
