O smartphone market as a whole, it may even have seen better days, but the segment of high-end devices continues from strength to strength. At least that’s what they say the latest data from Canalys on the performance of devices above the range of US$500 around the world, released by the research firm yesterday on Twitter.

According to Canalys, going once morest the downward trend of the market, the segment of smartphones flagship grew good 4,7% in the first quarter of 2023 compared to the same period of the previous year. Whoever did the best, however, was Apple, which led the sales ranking in these first months of the year with the iPhone 14 Pro Max.

In fact, the Cupertino giant occupied all four of the first positions on the Canalys list, with the iPhone 14 Pro second, the iPhone 14 in third and the iPhone 13 in fourth. The company also appears with the iPhone 14 Plus in sixth, the iPhone 12 in eighth and the third generation iPhone SE in 11th position.

Among Android smartphones, it was the Galaxy S23 Ultra, from Samsung, who managed to do better, appearing in fifth position. The South Korean company dominated the ranking with Apple, appearing in seventh position with the Galaxy S23in the ninth with the Galaxy S23 Pluson the 10th with the Galaxy Z Flip4on the 12th with the Galaxy S22 and on the 15th with the Galaxy S21 FE 5G.

In addition to Apple and Samsung, the only two brands to appear in the ranking were Xiaomi, with the Xiaomi 13 (13th), and Huawei, with the Mate 50 (14º).

Still according to Canalys, top-of-the-line smartphones accounted for more than a third of sales in the first quarter, although the market as a whole retreated 13.3% year-on-year. This news may give manufacturers more breath amid this decline in sales, as the profit margin for smartphones above US$500 is usually considerably higher.
