“Banque du Liban Governor Riad Salameh Summoned for Interrogation on Money Laundering Charges”

Janoubia learned, from concerned sources, that the Public Defender, Judge Imad Qablan, assigned by the Public Prosecutor, Judge Ghassan Oweidat, summoned the Governor of the Banque du Liban, Riad Salameh, to a session to be held the day following tomorrow, Wednesday, May 31, explaining that the reason for the summons is “to interrogate Salameh.” On the arrest warrant issued in absentia last week by the German public prosecutor once morest him on charges of money laundering, forgery and embezzlement, which turned into a red notice, a copy of which was reported to the Lebanese judiciary today through the International Office of Interpol.

Janoubia learned from concerned sources that lawyer Judge Imad Qablan, assigned by Judge Ghassan Oweidat, summoned Salameh to a session to be held the day following tomorrow, Wednesday, May 31.

The sources revealed that the procedures once morest Salameh, following his interrogation session next Wednesday, will be the same as those taken once morest him last Friday, preventing him from traveling and leaving him under investigation, noting that his Lebanese diplomatic and French passports are now in the custody of the Lebanese judiciary following they were seized and copies were handed over to Salameh, as a result. He was interrogated in the French arrest warrant, where Salameh denied the charges once morest him and demanded that the Lebanese judiciary not hand him over to the French authorities and put him on trial in Lebanon.

The sources revealed that the procedures once morest Salama, following his interrogation session next Wednesday, will be the same as those taken once morest him last Friday, by preventing him from traveling and leaving him under investigation.

The German arrest warrant is the second issued once morest Salameh within a week, at a time when the Lebanese judiciary is awaiting from the French authorities and through the international Interpol, to hand him the file for Salame’s recovery, so that the Lebanese judiciary will re-interrogate him in light of it and take the decision to try him in Lebanon for those crimes attributed to him in France, or Keeping the file, knowing that judicial sources concerned with the investigation with Salama confirmed that the crimes alleged once morest Salama are the same as those for which he is being prosecuted before the first investigating judge in Beirut, Charbel Bou Samra.
Salama’s summons on Wednesday coincides with an investigation session for his brother Raja Salama before the French judiciary, as the latter was informed of its date on May 31, which precedes an investigation session with Marianne Howayek on June 13.
