Istanbul, Turkey (CNN) — Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan won the second round of the presidential election, Sunday, according to Turkey’s Supreme Electoral Council.
The head of the Turkish Supreme Electoral Council, Ahmed Yener, said in a direct press conference that the preliminary official results are as follows:
99.43% of the votes were counted
Erdogan 52.14%
Kilicdaroglu 47.86%
Earlier, presidential candidate Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu said, in a speech delivered from his party’s headquarters in Ankara, that he would continue the struggle until there was “true democracy” in Turkey.
He said, “This was the most unfair election period in our history… We did not succumb to the climate of fear. In these elections, the people’s will to change an authoritarian government became clear despite all the pressures.”
While Kilicdaroglu did not openly admit defeat, he said that “what makes me really sad are the difficult days ahead for our country.”
