2023 F1 Monaco GP Final: Number of tires & tire strategy forecast Pirelli, the official tire supplier, has announced the number of tires that each driver can use in the 2023 F1 Monaco GP final. Pirelli has nominated compounds C3 (hard), C4 (medium), and C5 (soft) for the Monte Carlo city course, which will be the stage of Round 5. If the race is dry, the use of two compounds will be mandatory.

The fastest Grand Prix strategy on this track, where overtaking is almost impossible, is to make one stop as quickly as possible through the 78 laps. In theory it should be fastest to go on the grid with the medium and change to the hard between laps 20 and 25. It is also possible to start on soft tires and switch to hard tires between laps 15 and 20, or vice versa. Mario Isola, Pirelli Motorsport Director: “Today at Monte Carlo we witnessed one of the most spectacular and unpredictable qualifying sessions in recent F1 history. It was close from start to finish. We already knew yesterday that the gaps were very small at this track, and this followingnoon confirmed that: the top 15 cars were within 0.652 seconds in Q1, and the gap between 1st and 10th in Q2 was close. 0.469s.In Q3 the top 4 drivers were 4 different teams and the difference was 0.188s.I would like to salute all the drivers for their excellent performance on the track today on the absolute limit. From a technical point of view the versatility of the soft compound was confirmed and we were able to do a few flying laps with cool down laps in between. The track evolved significantly throughout the day and during each session. Saturday is usually one of the highlights of the Monaco Grand Prix, but following today we can’t wait to find out what happens next, and don’t expect too many strategic surprises. It’s best to go for one stop with the hard tires as the main choice, but it’s more uncertain which tire to start the race with, the soft tires certainly have more grip at the start, but the medium ones. It has a wider range of use and is more likely to make the most of the safety car.”
