Criticism of ÖVP Secretary General Stocker for spreading false claims
Vienna (OTS) – “Climate neutrality by 2040 is the major goal that this coalition has agreed on. Since day one in government, we Greens have been working flat out to accomplish this historic task. I would appreciate it if the ÖVP would once more take part in this work to protect our livelihoods with serious proposals, instead of exchanging political small change with verbal attacks on the climate minister,” said Lukas Hammer, climate protection spokesman for the Greens, in response to statements by the ÖVP General Secretary Christian Stocker.
He tweeted on Whit Sunday that the minister was already planning to end combustion engines in 2027, while the ÖVP was out of the question at all. “The ÖVP reacts here to reports that they know are not correct. The climate council of the citizens, which we launched together as a coalition, proposed an end to combustion engines for 2027 – not the minister. However, the internal combustion engine will no longer play a role in passenger cars in the medium term, even if some people cling to this sinking ship so tightly,” says Hammer. Due to the scarcity of e-fuels and green hydrogen and the significantly lower levels of efficiency and thus high costs, these fuels will only be used where liquid or gaseous fuels cannot be dispensed with.
