According to Margot Robbie, if there is one actress who embodies the spirit of Barbie to perfection, it’s Gal Gadot and here are her reasons…

The countdown is on: more than two months before we can discover Margot Robbie in the skin of this dear Barbie. But the actress isn’t the only one to take on the role, as a host of actresses will play different versions of the iconic doll, like Issa Rae’s Barbie President, Emma Mackey’s Nobel Prize-winning Barbie, the Barbie Mermaid by Dua Lipa or the Barbie Diplomat by Nicola Coughlan.

But when Margot Robbie and writer-director Greta Gerwig were looking for actresses for the roles of Barbie, there is one they believe was the perfect embodiment of the legendary doll in every way: a certain Gal Gadot. Margot Robbie spoke on the subject in an interview with Vogue (via ComingSoon).

Gal Gadot has the energy of Barbie. Because Gal Gadot is incredibly beautiful but you don’t hate her for being so beautiful, because she’s so sincere and so passionately lovable it’s almost ridiculous.

However, the Wonder Woman star was unavailable for the role. Margot Robbie then used the “Barbie energy” of Gal Gadot as a model during the auditions for the film.

WHAT IS BARBIE THE MOVIE ABOUT?

After being kicked out of Barbieland for being a less than perfect doll, Barbie heads out into the real world to find true happiness with the help of Ken.”, can we read in the official synopsis. Margot Robbie therefore plays the titular Barbie, while Ryan Gosling will bring the main Ken to life.

Warner Bros. Pictures

In addition to the actresses mentioned above, we will also find Kate McKinnon, Alexandra Shipp, Hari Nef, Sharon Rooney, Ana Cruz Kayne and Ritu Arya embodying other versions of Barbie, as well as Scott Evans, Simi Liu, Ncuti Gatwa and Kingsley Ben-Adir playing other versions of Ken.

Carried out by Greta Gerwig who co-wrote the film with Noah Baumbach, Barbie is the first feature film featuring the doll in live action. Scheduled in theaters for July 19, 2023, it will face that day, at the box office, another highly anticipated film: Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer.
