The guest of Pascal Vrebos was, this Sunday, the president of the PS, Paul Magnette.
On the set, Paul Magnette returned to one of the controversies of the week: the Flemish PS, Vooruit, proposes to punish the unemployed for more than two years. Connor Rousseau wants to withdraw unemployment benefits from unemployed people if they refuse a job following two years. “A right-wing policy“, commented Ahmed Laaouej, leader of the PS parliamentary group in the House of Representatives.
“He has a Flemish vision which is partly different from ours“, he said. “For now, it’s already like that: someone unemployed who is offered a job that matches their qualifications is obliged to accept it. If he does not, he is already sanctioned“.
Connor Rousseau therefore adds a subtlety, which the Walloon PS does not accept. “What we are told is that we will offer these people a job following the two years. If someone has been unemployed for two years, the labor market is not working. It is up to the community, to the State to offer work“. What Rousseau does not say, therefore.
“The difference I have with Connor Rousseau is the notion of “basic job”. During the covid, we saw that invisible jobs were very important jobs. Are these basic jobs? You have to be able to say that you are offering a real job, which is necessary for society“, concludes Paul Magnette.
