The VW Touareg gets an HD light

2023-05-28 07:00:01

Punctually five years following the market launch of the third generation, Volkswagen is updating the Touareg business SUV. A little more here, a little more there – and all in all a handsome package.

The IQ Light with the HD LED matrix headlights (standard from “Elegance”) is eye-catching: More than 38,000 interactive LEDs project a carpet of light exactly into the lane and illuminate the road more precisely than ever before. Oncoming traffic and cars ahead are faded out in a matter of milliseconds.

The radiator grille, headlights and front apron have been redesigned, and the daytime running lights are L-shaped: three on the left, three on the right. The central crossbar in the radiator grille is illuminated, an LED strip runs across the rear, and the VW logo is illuminated in red for the first time.

Roof load sensor: more safety

The roof load sensor, which detects when a roof box is fitted, is new in the updated Touareg. The ESC then intervenes earlier to increase driving stability. Without a roof load, the systems allow a sportier performance.

In the interior, VW packs the “Innovision Cockpit” into the Touareg as standard: the 12-inch cockpit display merges with the central, 15-inch touchscreen. High-resolution map data in HD quality is shown. Apple’s CarPlay and Android’s Auto now work wirelessly. The new USB-C connection now supplies 45 instead of 15 watts of power.

The update Touareg will come to Austria in October, and then there will also be prizes.

VW Touareg: The Motors

The new VW Touareg will be launched in Austria with four drive versions. These are all 3.0-liter V6 engines: two high-torque turbodiesels (170 kW / 231 hp and 210 kW / 286 hp) as well as two plug-in hybrid drives (V6 petrol engine plus electric motor). The plug-in hybrid drive of the VW Touareg eHybrid develops a system output of 280 kW (381 hp).

On board the sporty top model Touareg R eHybrid, the system delivers a whopping 340 kW (462 hp) of power.

All engines are coupled as standard to an eight-speed automatic transmission and 4Motion permanent all-wheel drive.
