The accident happened at the so-called Franzosenschanze, near the municipality of St. Gilgen in Salzburg’s Flachgau region. The woman should have had problems at a depth of around 27 meters, she and her companion carried out an emergency ascent. Other divers noticed the couple’s rapid ascent and administered first aid.
The woman had to be resuscitated at the scene of the accident, and the man also needed medical help. It is still unclear why the divers got into trouble, the water sports enthusiasts were flown by helicopter to a special Bavarian clinic. When asked, the police might not provide any further information for the time being.
