With the end of the rebate and the increase in the cost of fuel, Superethanol is also experiencing a sharp rise in price. Counting that it is often necessary to have a conversion box installed on your vehicle, the addition turns out to be more salty than expected, reports Le Figaro.

What if Superethanol was no longer such an advantageous solution? This is the question that arises Le Figaro, Saturday, May 27. Because today, the observation is rather bitter for motorists, and particularly for those who have chosen to invest in an approved conversion box allowing them to run on E85, specifies the daily. An installation that can cost between 700 and 1,600 euros depending on the category, but which until recently made it possible to benefit from this fuel at a very attractive price.

However, with the end of the rebate at the pump and the increase in the price of the production of Superethanol, due to the increase in the production costs of agricultural alcohols, the liter of E85 went from 0.79 euro to a year ago at 1.14 euro today, points out Le Figaro. To all this is added the overconsumption conditioned by the use of this biofuel.

A few tens of euros less

Difficult, therefore, to consider Superethanol as an option that is still as profitable, while its consumption has increased by 85% since last year. “On average, the E85 saves 458 euros for 13,000 km traveled per year, compared to 500 euros previously”explains Nicolas Kurtsoglou, fuel manager at the National Union of Agricultural Alcohol Producers (SNPAA), at Figaro.

A small saving despite everything, although it is necessary to take into account the installation of the box, for which regional aid has been put in place almost everywhere in France, indicates the daily.
