Netflix has ended password sharing in France and the rest of the world. This new policy had been implemented in a few European countries at the beginning of the year, but not yet in France or the United States. Netflix now charges €5.99 per month per additional subscriber who does not reside in the primary household associated with the account. Amazon Prime Video therefore did not hesitate to make fun of its competitor.
Taquin, the Amazon Twitter account went to retrieve this old tweet from Netflix which dates back to 2017: “ love is to share a password “. Remember that Netflix has always accepted the sharing of passwords between users for several years before finally backtracking.
This decision was mainly taken to diversify the income of the company which did not have an easy year in 2022. For the moment, some users who used to share their account are furious with the platform. However, Netflix believes that this is only a short-term impact before it can register long-term growth.

Amazon therefore retweeted the old Netflix tweet, adding a screenshot. As you can see below, the image shows the Prime Video login screen. We see the famous question “Who is watching?” with 6 profiles from a Prime Video account. The nicknames of these profiles come together to form the answer “ everyone who has our password ».

Prime Video, which has always competed with Netflix, therefore did not hesitate to tackle the streaming platform giant. And for good reason, Prime Video users are free to share their password as they wish. However, this may change in the future. Prime Video’s UK account replied in a humorous tone: ” we laugh and have fun, but let’s hope we don’t do the same “. It is indeed not impossible that Amazon will eventually end up charging for account sharing on its platform.
