PARIS, May 27 (Xinhua) — French director Justine Tritt won the Palme d’Or of the 76th Cannes Film Festival for her film “Anatomy of Fall” on Saturday in Cannes, France, becoming the third woman to win this award.
Anonymous of Fall is Tritt’s second feature film to be selected to compete at the festival for the Palme d’Or award, following her previous film “Sibel” in 2019.
In the award-winning film, Tritt attempts to expose the social prejudice many independent women face by telling the story of a German writer who tries to prove her innocence following being accused of killing her husband.
It was also a big night for Asian filmmakers, with Vietnamese-French director Tran Anh Hung taking home the best director award, while Japanese director Hirokazu Kore-eda’s “Monster” took home the best screenplay award.
Japanese actor Koji Yakusho won the best actor award, while Turkish actress Merv Dizdar won the best actress award.
British director Jonathan Glazer’s film “The Zone of Interest” won the Grand Prix, the second most important award at the festival.
The jury prize was awarded to Finnish director Aki Kaurismäki.
The 76th edition of the Cannes Film Festival kicked off on May 16, with 21 films selected to compete for the Palme d’Or.
