2023-05-27 16:00:00

Decided following the work of the Citizen’s Climate Convention, the 2021 Climate Law prohibits domestic flights of less than 2.5 hours, but not without conditions. First, there must be a rail alternative between stations serving the same cities as the airports concerned “. Then, the connections must be regular, several times a day, thus allowing ” more than eight hours of presence on site during the day, throughout the year ».

The current Minister of Transport, Clément Beaune, is delighted: ” This is a major signal and a world first “. Before adding: This is an essential step and a strong symbol in the policy of reducing greenhouse gas emissions. “. In the meantime, it will be up to the French ministry responsible for civil aviation to assess the air routes concerned, before the start of each aeronautical season.

For the moment, only three connections are concerned, between the airports of Nantes, Lyon, Bordeaux and Paris-Orly. The links between Rennes, Lyon and Roissy-Charles-de-Gaulle, as well as that between Lyon and Marseille, will be added later, the corresponding railway lines having to be further improved to replace the plane.
