LIMA, Ohio Authorities say two inmates who escaped from an Ohio prison earlier this week hid in a dumpster, and four staff have been placed on furlough while the search continues for an inmate still at large.
He Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction said Friday followingnoon that investigators had determined that James Lee47 years old, and Bradley Gillespie50, left the Allen/Oakwood Correctional Institution in Lima “following hiding in a garbage container”.
Four corrections officers have been placed on paid administrative leave and similar action may be taken once morest others while the department’s internal investigation continues, authorities said. A criminal investigation by the Ohio State Highway Patrol is also continuing.
Gillespie, jailed since 2016 for murder, remains on the run. Lee, who is serving a 2021 sentence for burglary and safe-breaking, was recaptured early Wednesday in Kentucky following a police pursuit of a stolen car the men were believed to be in ended in a crash and a foot pursuit, authorities said.
James Lee, 47, was captured at the scene, but Bradley Gillespie, 50, remained at large.
The two men were reported missing Tuesday following Lee was discovered missing during an 11 a.m. head count and an emergency count then revealed Gillespie was also missing. According to authorities, the two men were last seen on surveillance video inside the center shortly following 8 a.m. Monday.
