Man arrested in South Korea after opening plane door and causing panic during flight

A man has been arrested in South Korea following being accused of opening a plane door of Asiana Airlines in mid-air and cause a big panic during the flight this Friday (26). The case happened near the airport of the city of Daegu, in the southeast of the country.

An airline official said a 30-year-old man who was sitting in the emergency seat appeared to have opened the door when the aircraft was regarding 700 feet above the ground and regarding two to three minutes before landing.

Local police confirmed that the man was arrested and said he confessed to opening the door, but declined to say what motivated him to do so. Asiana Airlines officials told CNN that the plane landed safely.

A total of 200 people were on board, including 194 passengers, as reported by the airline. According to the Daegu Fire Department, 12 people suffered minor injuries from hyperventilation and nine of them were sent to local hospitals.

The aircraft was identified on the Flightradar 24 tracking website as an Airbus 321. The jet was on a flight from Jeju Island, off the south coast of South Korea, to Daegu. Several videos regarding the case circulated on the internet and show the despair of some passengers.
