Los Angeles (AP) – As Barbie and Ken in brightly colored outfits, Margot Robbie (32) and Ryan Gosling (42) have revealed further details regarding the story of their “Barbie” feature film. Almost two months before the planned theatrical release in mid-July, the studio Warner Bros. put an almost three-minute trailer online on Thursday. In it, the long-legged dolls are transported from their perfect, pink Barbieland into the “real world”.
“My heels are on the ground,” says Barbie, who usually walks in high heels, with horror. “Why do men stare at me like that?” she wonders, with platinum blonde hair and brightly colored clothes, while roller skating with Ken in Venice Beach, California. The turbulent excursion into the real world ends with arrests and chases. The boss of a toy company (Will Ferrell) rages that the doll has to go back in the box. Other roles in the plastic world include Michael Cera, America Ferrera, Kate McKinnon and Dua Lipa.
Warner Bros. announced the project with Australian Robbie (“Babylon”) in 2019. The Barbie doll has only appeared in animated films, never in a feature-length film with real actors. Greta Gerwig (“Little Women”, “Lady Bird”) is directing, and she wrote the screenplay with her husband Noah Baumbach (“Marriage Story”).
