In 2022, nearly 24,000 people worked in the ICT (Information and communication technology) sector, or 7.7% of employees, according to Eurostat. This is the highest rate in the euro zone and almost in the EU since only Sweden has a higher percentage (8.6%). Next come Finland (7.6%), the Netherlands (7.2%) and Estonia (6.6%). Conversely, less than 3% of employees in Romania and Greece work in this field. The rate is 5.6% in Belgium, 5% in Germany and 4.3% in France.
A sector unfortunately still too often male: there were only 20.7% of women in 2022 in Luxembourg once morest 79.3% of men. However, a little more than the European average (18.9%) even if some countries do much better such as Bulgaria (28.9%) or Romania (25.2%).
It should be noted that in Luxembourg, the sector, in addition to representing 7.7% of employment, accounts for 9% of GDP.
