The memory of Tina Turner is palpable in the Swiss capital on Friday evening. The US Embassy in Bern illuminated the facade of its offices with a giant portrait of the late rock legend on Wednesday.

“Tonight we light up the Embassy and lower our flag in honor of the Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll,” the US Embassy wrote on Twitter.

The announcement of the death on Wednesday of the Swiss-naturalized American star caused a stir around the world. Fans and neighbors of the singer who lived in Küsnacht (ZH) came to lay flowers and candles in front of her villa, while several leaders and artists paid tribute to her.

Tina Turner lived with her German husband Erwin Bach on the golden coast of the lake, at the gates of Zurich, since 1997, following having lived in town for two years. The rock legend died at the age of 83 following a long illness. The American had obtained Swiss nationality in 2013.
