Ana Almanzar was appointed as New York’s Deputy Mayor for Strategic Initiatives. She is the first Dominican woman to hold that position.

“A native of the Dominican Republic, she relocated to New York City where she realized her American dream, graduated from CUNY and fights for Latino rights,” said Mayor Eric Adams.

“I bring with me my years of experience in the private, public, non-profit and philanthropic sectors that have prepared me to assume the role of Deputy Mayor for Strategic Initiatives with great enthusiasm. My journey from Las Palmas in Santo Domingo to the Municipality has been full of great challenges and opportunities” said Almanzar.

Ana Almanzar was the Director of Community Relations at the Mother Cabrini Health Foundation, a position she has held since 2021. Previously, for 6 years she was Chief of Staff to the Director of Nonprofit Organizations for New York State.

She also worked as the Civic Engagement Program Manager, Northeast at the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials (NALEO).

Almanzar received his Associate’s degree from Eugenio Maria De Hostos Community College of The City University of New York and a BA from Columbia University. He also has a master’s degree in international affairs from Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs.
