Festival of gravel and adventure cycling, Nature is Bike takes place in Angers from June 16 to 18. The village, located at Lac de Maine, invites everyone to experience a weekend of cycling in the spirit of gravel and adventure cycling.
Presenting herself as “France’s first green city”, Angers asserts itself as “the ideal playground for all cyclists, backpackers and lovers of discovery”. As part of an eco-responsible approach, the Nature is Bike festival is part of the calendar as “the major and unmissable gravel event in France”.
Last year, no less than 80 exhibitors for some 1,150 participants were present. Open to the general public, the festival will offer this year a program enriched with new routes and activities. With a total of seven trialsthe 2023 program offers an original selection of routes, from a simple discovery walk to more demanding routes of 200 or 320 km.
From the Landing beaches to the sweetness of Angevin
The test Gravel of Legendstill departing from the Landing beaches, this time will follow a completely new routedoing this year an incursion into Brittany before reaching Angers. Backpackers and other seasoned athletes can try to do this 320 km journey in a single day (21 hours maximum). To promote the exploration of the territories crossed, the “Specialized Gold bikepacking” formula will be a more accessible alternative, over two days, with dinner and bivouac the first evening, halfway through Ille-et-Vilaine. The day before departure, as a warm-up, a new 40 km prologue is proposed to explore the Normandy coast.
The “Race200 Panaracer” will be one of the big novelties this year. This unprecedented event is the French stage of an international circuit Gravel Earth Series, alongside five other countries (Spain, Switzerland, Sweden, Iceland and Kenya). With several timed sections, this 200 km course is for the most competitive cyclists in search of performance. The route will make optimal use of the various assets of the destination: the Loire, the vineyards, the lower valleys of Angevin… it will pass through around twenty towns in the Angevin conurbation.
The opportunity to learn regarding gravel in the natural setting of Lac de Maine
For the first time, the Nature is Bike festival will take place in the natural setting of Lake Maine. More than 80 exhibitors are waiting on approximately 8,000 m2 surrounded by nature on the Esplanade. The leading brands (cycles and equipment, nutrition and health, technology) as well as trendy French tourist destinations for cycling will of course be present. Access is free. The public interested in this emerging practice that is gravel will have plenty of time to enjoy the many activities in the village: a forum with discovery workshops related to cycling, stories of cycling trips, a test area to try out different types of bike, a barbecue evening with music and local products…
Apart from the Gravel of Legend, all the other events correspond to loops around Angers, whose departures and arrivals will be at the Nature is Bike Village. Regardless of the distance covered, each participant will be able to at your own pace discover the natural and heritage riches of the Angevin region from a different angle. In this “walking” spirit, following the success of Secrets of Ramsar in 2022, new fun adventures with puzzles are on the program. Participants will also be able to take the opportunity to appreciate the attractions of Château de La Perrière & Golf d’Avrillé (Maison Younan).
Committed to ISO 20121 certification, Destination Angers wants to make Nature is Bike “a unique and exemplary eco-event” that promotes soft mobility and more sustainable tourism. Thanks to a partnership with SNCF TER and the Pays de la Loire Region, festival-goers are encouraged to favor soft modes of transport and train + bike intermodality, by being able to benefit from “live” tickets at 5 euros, usable on the TER and TER coaches of the Pays de la Loire.
