match report
Because of the riots at the home game once morest FC St.Gallen, the guest sector in Sion is known to remain closed today. Despite the repression, around 150 people from Lucerne came to the stadium. The fans are divided up in approximately the same ratio over three grandstands. But the ultras are also missing in the Sion sector at the start of the game. Out of solidarity, they also boycott the game for the first ten minutes. “Contre les sanctions collectives” can be read on a large banner behind the gate.
The game, on the other hand, starts rather flat. Referee Urs Schnyder receives a radio from VAR in the 13th minute and runs to the screen. In a previous scene, Dantas Fernandes hit the ball from behind in the penalty area from a very short distance. Dantas Fernandes is not to blame in this scene. The decision to whistle for a penalty seems questionable. Anto Grgic then made it 1-0 for Sion from the penalty spot.
After the opening goal of the hosts, the FCL is the more active team, but finds it difficult to create chances. FC Sion is limited to the counterattack. The fans at the Stade Tourbillon are not offered an attractive game during the first 40 minutes. But Severin Ottiger offers a magic piece. The young full-back from Eich played a solo across almost the entire pitch before the break and left the Valais team standing in rows – he was only denied by goalie Alexandro Safarikas.
In the second half, the FCL comes onto the field with a changed eleven. Dantas Fernandes no longer steps on the lawn. Sofyan Chader comes on for the promising talent. The equalizer should have come in the 50th minute, but Lars Villiger hit the ball in front of the goal. But only a minute later the redeeming jubilation: Pascal Schürpf equalized.
It’s all regarding winning for Mario Frick today. In the 63rd minute he brought on Mo Dräger for Ottiger. Dräger takes on an offensive role in midfield. A little later, Sion player Denis-Will Poha sees the red card following a VAR intervention for a foul on Martin Frydek. The FCL is now playing in numerical superiority on the pitch. To mobilize new energies, Asumah Abubakar replaces Villiger.
Lucerne’s offensive efforts are bearing fruit. In the 75th minute, Pius Dorn hits a cross that lands at Chader. The Sion defenders are too far away from the French, who only have to push in. Ten minutes before the end, Ismaijl Beka has to leave the field. Luca Jaquez comes in for him.
Shortly before the end, the hosts put pressure on the Lucerne goal once more. The guests from Central Switzerland, however, hold once morest it and defend the sixteen consistently. The FCL secures three points once morest Sion and thus has fourth place for sure and plays European.
That says FCL trainer Mario Frick
“We earned those three points today.”
“It’s nice to be able to play in Europe next season.”
