Livret A is the preferred placement of the French. However, the LEP is much more advantageous because of its rate of remuneration!

To date, the Livret A is the preferred placement of the French. However, there exists the LEP which brings in much more money at the end of the year ! We tell you everything regarding this little-known account!

Booklet A has a competitor!

In 2023, the number of people who opened an A booklet exploded. Note that outstandings rose to 529.1 billion euros at the end of February. Or 20 billion euros more than on January 1. This increase is due to the increase in the rate of pay. To date, interest is set at 3%, compared to 2% last year.

But also and above all because the booklet A is reassuring. You can there invest up to 22,950 euros without paying any tax or social levy. This investment is indeed a victim of its own success. Because 9.27 billion euros were placed there in one month! However, there is another much more interesting investment… This is the LEP (popular savings account).

Eh yes ! LEP is not popular. And yet, it brings in much more than the Livret A. Note that the rate of pay is 6.1%. That means it beats inflation! Incredible isn’t it!

In this time of crisis, LEP starting to make a name for itself. More and more people ask their banker to open one urgently.

This time, the ceiling is lower than that of the Livret A… Unfortunately, not everything can be perfect ! You can therefore place up to 7700 euros there. A very nice sum which will evolve at the end of the year.

Know that the LEP is as secure as the booklet A. It therefore has all the qualities to become the product most attractive savings plan on the market.

How to open a LEP?

Sad news for people who want to save… The LEP is not a universal product. In other words, it is not as ‘available’ as the booklet A! To open one, your income must not exceed a certain limit.

If you receive less than 21,393 euros in metropolitan France, then you can apply to your banker for an opening. And for 2 tax shares (married or PACS couple, single person with one child, single person with 2 children) the amount must not exceed 32,821 euros.

You have therefore understood it, it is therefore for French people with a modest level of income. Its opening is reserved for major taxpayers who declare income in France.

People under the age of 18 do not have the right to open. The same is true for young adults who are therefore on the tax household of their parents. And for good reason ! There cannot be two LEPs within the same tax household.

So the LEP certainly pays off, but the rules are strict ! If you are eligible, your banker will ask you for the reference tax income for 2021. But also your valid identity document. And a proof of residence of less than 3 months.

Other important information, when opening it, you must do a minimum payment of 30 euros. Then the interests do their job!

Despite its strengths, LEP is still unknown. According to the latest information from the Banque de France, just over 9 million French people opened one at the start of 2023. That is not much! Because 18 million French people might claim it in 2021.
